About
Who I am
I am Dr. Fernando Soto, an MD with a computer science degree, preparing for the future of pathology and medicine. This page is the plain-language version of why histopath.ai exists: to document how I learn, build, and share practical pathology informatics and WSI workflows. It’s meant to be transparent, reproducible, and clinically grounded—so you can trace how I think and where the work comes from.
My background in software and research helps me translate clinical questions into reproducible experiments and pipelines, but I am still early in this journey. Publishing my notes keeps me humble, accountable, and open to feedback.
What this site is
- A learning log that captures the study path I follow for pathology informatics.
- A growing portfolio that highlights how I communicate case reasoning, design workflows, and iterate on projects.
- A humble teaching notebook where I share what I am learning, with the hope others can borrow ideas and help me spot blind spots.
What this site is not
- It is not a clinical reference, diagnostic guideline, or replacement for pathology sign-out.
- It is not an authoritative review. Errors and gaps are expected because everything is in-progress learning.
- It is not personalized medical advice. Align any takeaways with your institution’s policies, current guidelines, and supervisory expectations.
Why I’m doing this
Publishing my process keeps me accountable, documents how I work, and creates a transparent trail for collaborators. A few themes guide the effort:
- Reinforcing diagnostic language and morphology fundamentals through structured case write-ups.
- Designing reproducible WSI pipelines that emphasise explainability, QA dashboards, and validation guardrails.
- Documenting governance practices so AI projects align with CAP, CLIA, and FDA expectations.
- Teaching and knowledge translation, turning personal learning into resources for residents and collaborators.
